A restraining order is an order issued for a specified duration intended to protect an individual from abuse, violence, harassment or stalking by another individual. It prohibits or restricts access or proximity to the protected party. Sometimes called a protective order or protection order, it can also restrict spouses from the home due to domestic violence.
